A good friend spends his Thanksgiving morning delivering food to families in need.
My wish for him was that he ran out of families in need before he ran out of food.
Think about that when you go back for seconds. Some people don’t get firsts.

You have stirred the memory bank. The fact that you remember the tradition makes a person wonder what does a 13 year old think as he is about to experience his 14th Thanksgiving Day tradition (along with the cumulative Christmas and Easter experiences as well).
Makes a person realize perhaps there is even more to it than you could have ever dreamed.
Time, maybe decades, will tell.

I have something to confess. I’m actually jealous of what you and your family have done each Thanksgiving since I’ve known you. It stuck with me the first year and still has an impact now. I’ll have to keep looking for opportunities to do the same throughout the year. It doesn’t have to be limited to one day in November.
