A PSA about your PSA

Not the most flattering picture. But there is nothing glamorous about the message.

August 1, 2011. That is the day I was given a book “100 Questions & Answers about Prostate Cancer” by my doctor. A couple of months earlier, a routine blood test for cholesterol revealed an extremely potentially dangerous PSA level.

Normal is less than 1. Mine was 26. Never let it be said I do something with less than a full commitment.

It led to months of anxiety, many nights with little sleep, and many tears shed over what might have been.

It also led to a renewal of my faith, a stronger belief in the power of prayer and it revealed the strength of my network of friends and family close by and around the world.

So, men, here is your PSA (public service announcement) for your PSA (prostate specific antigen). Get it checked. Soon.

Don’t just do it for yourself. You can think of many others to do it for.

As large as the University is becoming, health screens such as this should be provided! Paying a small fee for this information is priceless!
