Carpe this diem

20130925-095936.jpgAn opportunity has come up and it’s time to take charge.

Using your talents and education, you recognize the situation needs someone to take the lead. But you’ve never done this job before. What do you do?

1. Assemble a team of motivated individuals to work with you.
2. Establish goals for your project based on feedback from management.
3. Listen to your team. The next idea can come from anywhere.
4. Communicate the mission to all parties.
5. Follow up weekly/daily to track progress and encourage others to reach their goals.
6. Celebrate individual accomplishments along the way.

Have faith. Now go lead!

It was an accident

A coaster accident . . . I couldn't divert my attention.

A coaster accident . . . I couldn’t divert my attention.

It was a coaster accident. In the parking lot. Somebody was careless.

But they didn’t know that their carelessness would result in a guest noticing the accident.

Someone is always watching us. Someone is always testing us. Someone is always waiting for us to make a mistake. It can be our customers, our co-workers or our competition.

Be vigilant. Pay attention to the details. Even the small ones.

Or you may end up with something more than a coaster accident on your hands.

Paper and pen for your thoughts

20130922-100606.jpgInspiration can come from anywhere at any time.

Are you ready for it when it strikes?

Instead of giving you a penny for your thoughts, they give you pen and paper.

What inspired them to do this?

Keep it clean

Clean. Serene. Pristine.

Clean. Serene. Pristine.

Notice how clean it is? To the casual observer it might not stand out.

But if leaves were littering the pathway or a trash can was overflowing, we’d notice it in a heartbeat.

How “clean” is your operation? Your customers may notice when things are out-of-place before you do.

Stalking vs. Involved

Wanna go for a dive?

Wanna go for a dive?

What kind of style represents the way you lead?

Do you stand on the sidelines remaining clean and pristine?

Or are you getting dirty in the trenches?

I’m thankful for a leadership team that gets in the trenches with me and shows how it’s done.
