Do you know the value of a thank you?

A common parting phrase. Is it necessarily a good one?

In my opinion . . . no. Save the appreciation for your stock portfolio.

While appreciation is synonymous with gratitude, most people can interpret a sincere thank you a lot easier.

Oh. And make eye contact.

And smile. Say thank you and mean it.

Presidential series

The Presidents of the United States of America

Thanks to everyone for contributing to the last series as I featured quotes from our Presidents, some known and some unfamiliar. . . the quotes . . . not the presidents. Your comments and support have been overwhelming and humbling!

I tried keeping the politics out. Instead, the focus was on helping us all lead better, serve better and live better.

By no means am I an expert in this field. I simply pass on what I read and observe in life.

Thanks to everyone who made April a record month at It’s All About The Customer.

Stay tuned . . .

It’s not rocket surgery

Barack Obama (b. 1961)

Success doesn’t come overnight, unless you’re a laxative.

The steady progress made by doing the right thing day after day, working hard toward your goal, putting one foot in front of the other . . . that’s the secret formula for reaching your goal.

Who knows if the next step you take will be the one that turns out to be the last one you need.

It’s the tortoise and the hare. Slow and steady wins the race. Don’t quit!

“If you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll make progress.”
Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States (2009 – Present)

Do you know where you’re vulnerable?

George W. Bush (b. 1946)

Do you know where you’re most vulnerable?

Just because you know doesn’t mean you won’t fall victim. But knowing and planning your reaction can go a long way in minimizing the damage when it hits.

“On September 11 2001, America felt its vulnerability even to threats that gather on the other side of the Earth. We resolved then, and we are resolved today, to confront every threat from any source that could bring sudden terror and suffering to America.”
George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States (2001-2009)

While living today, don’t neglect tomorrow

William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton (b. 1946)

According to the Small Business Association, over 70% of new business survive the first two years. But only 50% can make it past 5 years. What can be done to make it beyond 5 years?

I don’t have the answers. No magic pill. But may I suggest a few things that might help?

1. Adapt to changing trends. (Technology, techniques, passions.)
2. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. (Notice it’s plural.)
3. Know your customers. (Know their names, know what they buy, know what they do.)

Maybe, just maybe, you’ll be one of the 50% that makes it.

“The future is not an inheritance, it is an opportunity and an obligation.”
William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton, 42nd President of the United States (1993-2001)
