Plays well with others

They perform well as a team. Even best!

Whether you’re reading a eulogy or a resume, it is great that this can be said of you, “plays well with others. ”

Are you a team player? If so, there’s a large complex project that could use someone like you.

A good way to boost your skill set is to volunteer for a project you know could benefit from hour presence. They may be understaffed and overwhelmed and you’re just the person who can step in and, with the right skill set, you can be the motivating force that gets the project completed.

It does get noticed. Management appreciates self starters who play well with others.

Provide solutions, not problems

You don’t need the boss’ permission to poke the box.

Do you communicate the struggles you have in your job? Not talking about complaining. There is a difference.

Instead of sharing your concerns with management, how about following them up with a conversation that includes solutions?

This type of approach shows forward thinking. Sure, it would be nice to solve all the problems yourself. But that’s not practical. Offering a solution shows your critical thinking skills and might be a time saver for the guy above you who has no time.

You don’t have to burn the candle at both ends to figure everything out.

As the motto at my wife’s school suggests, “No excuses, only adjustments.” Provide solutions, not just present the problems.

They can’t do it without you

They worked together, each one indispensable. So much more valuable as a team.

If your job was listed on an accounting ledger, would you be classified as an asset or a liability?

What is your boss concerned with when he/she goes to sleep at night?

If you want to make yourself an indispensable commodity, it would be wise to know. Fill in the gaps and watch your value to the company skyrocket.

Learn your business

He learned the business. Thought it would be great for everyone to play by the same rules.

What business are you in? How well do you know your industry?

If you work for a large corporation you might not know everything that goes on. If you are an entrepreneur, you had better know everything that goes on.

Knowing the ins and outs of areas beyond your “job” will help you and your company be successful. It won’t be easy. And your pursuit of knowledge might upset the apple cart. So much so that it might require a great sacrifice on your part.

Are you willing to know your business?
